YEAR REVIEW

Went well generally – no problems – should now strive towards more interaction between troupes.

TUK head on against SAM – direct competition. Unanimous vote to remove those involved in TUK which includes Silver Supremes and Innovation.

Members: SAM membership is to be split into competing troupes & guest members (the latter being those who have not competed this year and/or did not attend the meeting).

RULE CHANGES

1) Split of age groups: agreed there will now be 4 sections

2 ) Ages:       Up to age 9 = Tiny Tots

Up to age 12 = Juveniles

Up to age 15 = Juniors

                  Age 16 + = Seniors

All ages based on competitor’s age on 1st January . (ie if you are 10 on 1st Jan, you will be Juvenile, if you are 10 on 2nd January you will be Tiny.

3) Freestyle:            3 x freestyle sections, one for each age    group  excluding Tiny Tots.

4) Military:    Will not be bringing Military back

5) Tiny Tots :May use any equipment

6) Juveniles: Will have freestyle, pom-pom, baton & flag

7) Sections: Due to adding an additional age group it was suggested that each troupe should probably decide not to run one of the sections. This was to be at the discretion of the troupe but troupes should try and discuss this between themselves so that 1 section was not being continually left out.

8) March In & Out:  There will continue to be a march in and out. When marching in everyone will start at the back (inside) of the arena and march forward. March off at the side and front. Where possible bottom right exit.

9)        Routine         Tiny Tots up to 6 minutes

Times:           Juveniles up to 6 minutes

                                    Juniors up to 8 minutes

                                    Seniors up to 8 minutes

                                    Combination up to 10 minutes

Timings should be from entrance to exit including gaps in music

10) Flag: Decided that flag should continue to be a section for each each age group, excluding Tiny Tots.  (Was agreed this will be reviewed again next year as may need to be removed should 4 sections continue)

11) SAM Membership: Already discussed. “Active Members” – those who attended. “Guest Members” with exclusion of TUK.

12) Competition Dates: The following comps were confirmed - Destiny - 2nd June, True Colours - 14th June, Ice Illusions - 21st June, New Horizon - 12th July, Tri-star - 27th July, Inspiration - 2nd Aug, Electralites - 30th Aug.  (Bluestar hope to hold one)

Need to encourage people to hold competitions & other SAM members to help out. Also discussed the possibility of holding some SAM competitions i.e. run by a combination of SAM members on behalf of SAM, idea generally approved.

13) Competition Invites: It was decided that these can be sent by email via email addresses  given at the meeting. Try to get invites out as soon as possible. Try to do 2 months in advance. Replies should also be sent asap and should let host troupes know either way if you are attending or not.

14) Judges: All judges should be 18+. Seniors not to judge other seniors. Constructive criticism allowed but when watching judges to be encouraging, smile & look interested etc.

15) Comments: There were some unacceptable comments made by some people during the season. Was highlighted that no comments to be made about/at other troupes around the arena. More interacting between troupes. Problems like that detailed on the agenda to be dealt with on the day.

16) Incorrect age groups: Claimed some girls being entered in the incorrect ages groups. If someone wishes to raise this as an issue at a competition there should be a troupe leader meeting at the time. If it can be proved –disqualification for that section. No penalty points.

17) Overtime: Penalty to remain the same – 1 point per 10 seconds (i.e. 6 points per minute)

18) Mace Size: Not an issue for Tiny Tots/Juv. Junior & Senior to have correct size mace. Should be level with the chin  although between neck to nose allowable. If incorrect size = 5 penalty points off the drum’s  score. This rule to be put on the score sheets.  Judges to speak to the troupe at the time if they feel it is incorrect.

19) Late Arrivals to arena: No penalty points, unless this is a continuous problem throughout the day with no valid reason.

20) Drops: No penalty points.

21) Follow mace in & out: Agreed 5 point deduction if not.

22) Good Sportsmanship Award: Discretionary.

23) Dance Moves: Should be age appropriate and Majorette appropriate, it was discussed that most competitions take part in public places and we need to be cautious of some moves. Attire should also be appropriate – shortness of skirts etc.

24) Troupe Inspection: No troupe inspection but discretionary dress trophy.

25) Girls per section To be a minimum of 3 in Juvenile, Junior and Senior. No minimum amount for Tiny Tots.

26) Line/ Floor Judges It was decided there should be a line/floor judge for every section (where possible). This judge is to be walking around the arena to check lines and formations during the routine.

27) Number of Judges It was decided that wherever possible there should be 4 judges (3 ordinary plus 1 floor) but a minimum of 3 (2 plus 1 floor.)

28) Adult Routine  Discretionary

29) Mascots  All troupes to award mascot prizes, with a minimum of 1st place. Mascots to do the same as the other members of the troupe, not an individual part/not Mace with Drum. They should be marked by an armband or sash etc.

30) Cost per section

For outdoor competitions £7 per section.

For indoor competitions £10 per section

If to depart from these costs it should be made clear on the invites.

31) Score sheets Following much debate it was decided that the score sheets would remain primarily the same apart from some possible layout changes. May be a forum on the SAM website to discuss any additional alterations.

If a troupe will not be using the agreed SAM score sheets this must be made clear on the invites.

After checking there were no other matter the meeting was terminated.
